About James McKenzie

Dr. James McKenzie is a psychiatrist at the Elam Mental Health Center and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Meharry Medical College.

He studied Psychology and Spanish at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, and he studied medicine at Lincoln Memorial University – DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in Harrogate, TN. He completed Adult Psychiatry training at Cambridge Health Alliance, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School. He completed Child & Adolescent Psychiatry training at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. He is board certified in Adult Psychiatry and board eligible in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.

He provides psychiatric services at the Elam Center in the outpatient clinic, through medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and in the co-occurring residential program. He teaches medical students and psychiatry residents at Meharry about clinical and community psychiatry.
