About James McKenzie, D.O.

James McKenzie, D.O. is a Psychiatrist at the Lloyd C. Elam Mental Health Center and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Meharry Medical College.

Dr. McKenzie studied Psychology and Spanish at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. After completing his undergraduate studies, he earned his medical degree from the Lincoln Memorial University – DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in Harrogate, TN.

Dr. McKenzie completed his training in Adult Psychiatry at Cambridge Health Alliance, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School. Additionally, he completed his training in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. He is board certified in Adult Psychiatry and board eligible in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.

Dr. McKenzie provides psychiatric services at the Elam Center in the outpatient clinic, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and in the co-occurring residential program. He instructs medical students and psychiatry residents at Meharry Medical College in clinical and community psychiatry.
