About Richard Martin III, MD, MPH

Dr. Richard L. Martin III is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in adult hematology/oncology and serves as Meharry Sickle Cell Center Medical Director and Meharry Co-Director of Clinical Oncology Trials. He provides care for patients with blood disorder as well cancers and the Robert E. Hardy Cancer Center.

Dr. Martin earned his bachelor’s degree in Neurobiology at the University of Washington, Master of Public Health at Oregon Health Sciences University, and Doctor of Medicine from the University of Washington School of Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Wisconsin, Internal Medicine Teaching Fellowship at Spokane Internal Medicine Residency, and hematology/oncology fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, serving as chief fellow in his final year.

Dr. Martin’s medical interests include resident and fellow education and increasing health equity by improving evidence-based quality of care and access to clinical trials. He is working on learning Spanish and has a dog named Guacamole.
