About Digna Forbes M.D.

Dr. Digna Forbes is a pathologist at Meharry Medical Group with more than 20 years of experience. She is also the Interim Dean of the School of Medicine at Meharry Medical College. Additionally, she serves as Chair of the Department of Professional and Medical Education at Meharry.

Dr. Forbes received a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry at Boston University in Boston, Mass., and a medical degree at State University of New York at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in Buffalo, N.Y. She completed her residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Graduate Medical-Dental Education Consortium of Buffalo in Buffalo, N.Y. She also served as Chief Resident in the Department of Pathology at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill-Cornell Medical Center in New York.

Dr. Forbes has worked as a staff pathologist with Metropolitan Nashville General Hospital at Meharry since 1998.

At Meharry, Dr. Forbes oversees medical education for the School of Medicine. In 2018, Dr. Forbes was awarded the Joy McCann Endowed Emerging Faculty Award in Leadership for Women in Medicine.

Dr. Forbes serves on the advisory board of Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee and is a member of Saint Anselm’s Episcopal Church.
